The Resplendent Quetzal, from which our field station takes its name, holds special significance for QERC. It was this particular species of the trogon that first led Dr. Leo Finkenbinder to bring his research to the Savegre Valley, and from which our present research initiatives have grown. The Quetzal continues to bring visitors from all over the world hoping to catch a glimpse of this spectacular bird. QERC's Quetzal research focuses on the habitat, diet, and life cycle of this magnificent bird, while teaching undergraduate students the basics of field research.
