This recent sighting was submitted by Dr. Mike Mooring of PLNU. Dr. Mooring spotted a Collared Redstart (Myioborus torquatus) while working with his students at QERC. The Collared Restart is commonly referred to as "amigo de hombre"  which is Spanish for friend of man, because it often seen following hikers along the trail. Students and researchers at QERC are sure to see the restart while they are working here. 

Luckily for us Dr. Mooring caught some great shots of these hard to photograph birds. Not only that, he spotted a juvenile redstart lacking the colorful plumage of adults. Enjoy the sequence of photos below.
